Busy, exhaustion, stress? With this breathing exercise you will be able to relax and clear your head in an easy but effective way.

Lay or sit down in a position that is comfortable for you. If you have difficulty focussing, it might help if you close your eyes. Breathe in through your nose en exhale through either your mouth or nose. Place your hands on your belly. Try to follow the movement of your belly with your hands. Notice how your hands move slightly upwards when you inhale and how they move towards your spinal column when you exhale. Once you are able to observe this movement with ease, you can start to direct your breath into your hands on your belly each time you inhale. This type of breathing exercise is called diaphragmatic breathing or abdominal breathing. Breathe in and out in a calm manner, all along staying aware of the movement of your abdominal breathing. Do this for a few minutes at a time, until you wish to stop. When you repeat this exercise once a day, you might find that this is enough to experience calmness mentally as well as physically.
